     CAVES OF CRYSTAL

Cave of crystal

This scene  depicts another wintry  world, with the distant star casting its bluish light over a very cold  & lonely landscape.  Plant life is hanging on here in the gloom, any metabolism  would surely be very slow.   The cave mouth  is on the edge of a  ubiquitous ice flow, There could indeed even be animal forms on this planet as well.  Life is very tenacious, we only have to look at  the extreme environments  of Earth.   Once it gains a foothold ?  Planets like  this could well be very common in the galaxy, orbiting at the very edge of the stars life zone, if it had been a bit closer in,  conditions would be very different.

This image began life as an acrylic painting that was sold,  I  had taken a couple of photo's of it that formed the basis of this picture.  The cave seen here was painted in  Corel Painter. This enabled  the  painting  of  the translucency of  ice .  With  this  completed,  the painting was finished in Photoshop.  I prefer  to render in Painter and  finalize  in Photoshop,  which  allows me to get the final image ready for  archiving  in the required  format.
Unfortunately a system failure and my own (at the time) lack of "backing up" of the file, resulted in only an A4 sized image being left.  I think that this happens to a lot of people,  nowadays,  I am very scrupulous in my saving of computer files.
