This picture represents the recently detected companion
body to Proxima Centauri. Hopes were high that the nearest star to
Earth may have a system of planets, but this now looks unlikely. Instead
what we have here is a Brown Dwarf - a sub stellar object. Proxima
is grouped with Alpha Centauri A and B, two Sun like stars. Some Red dwarfs are prone to stellar flares; when its energy output can more than double in a few minutes
