| PLUTO FROM CHARON |
![]() |
This view of Pluto, , beyond the curving horizon of Charon, the major moon of this planet, other smaller bodies also attend here. This moon is practically half Pluto's size, so they could be called a double planet. This small world may have been pulled in from the Kuiper belt by Neptune's gravity and flung into an eccentric path ; which takes it inside that planets orbit. Pluto & Charon are tidally locked. They both circle the Sun in 248 years. From a passing space craft the planet probably resembles Triton somewhat in appearance. The surface is coated with frozen Methane & Nitrogen, with traces of Carbon Monoxide. When this world crosses inside Neptune's orbit, these ices vaporize to form a tenuous atmosphere.
