Alpha Centauri is the closest star system to Earth, it is made up of three stars Alpha A, Alpha B & Alpha C or "Proxima Centauri". A & B orbit about each other in about 80 years and during this time can be separated by only 11 AU , as seen in the scene here, the second "Sun" in the sky would brighten meaureably as this point approaches. The atmosphere here is somewhat thinner than that of Earth, and maybe as "B" grows brighter the snows would thaw and spring would arrive, followed by the long frozen winter.
